When it comes to getting your message across to potential clients and customers on your website and social media, effective communication does it every time. You’ll lose out on business opportunities with fuzzy messaging that makes your audience question what you’re talking about and why they should care.
In an effort to help you stop leaving money on the table, allow me to share a few quick points on making the most impact with your prospects.
“Since memory influences decisions, you must ask yourself: What do I want my audience to remember?”
By now you know that I’m a proponent of good grammar, editing what you publish - no matter the platform or format - and generally keeping a professional polish on your brand’s image. While all of that is very important, none of that matters if no one understands the point of your communication.
In a recent Entrepreneur article, Dr. Carmen Simon, a cognitive neuroscientist, writes this: “Since memory influences decisions, you must ask yourself: What do I want my audience to remember?”
What is the point of this ad?
How can this firm help my business grow?
What is this person’s area of expertise?
These are basic questions that audiences need to be able to easily answer when reading with your brand’s messaging. Make an impression by shedding some light on your accomplishments, and focusing on your knowledge base.
Think about it. What makes you the best option for the customers you want?
For example, I am a 20-year communications veteran with experience as a newspaper reporter. My website should communicate the fact that I have an inside track on what media outlets want to see from brands that want press coverage because I’ve been on the receiving end of pitches and press releases.
My point is that you need to be crystal clear in your messaging. Tell people why they should trust and get to know your brand. You’ll have more success with upfront, clear-cut communication.
